How to announce you are back after going quiet

Nothing has been posted for months and the post breaking the silence is about the silence. It is the one announcement whose subject is its own absence, which makes vagueness immediately self-defeating.

Why this announcement is not like the others

The subject is the absence, so vagueness proves the point

Every other post here reports an event. This one reports that events were not being reported, and the reader already knows, because they watched the feed go quiet. That removes the usual option of saying something general and warm, since a general and warm explanation for a gap is indistinguishable from no explanation, and it is read as confirmation that the gap will recur. What makes it credible is a real cause and a date. The cause can be entirely mundane, and mundane is more believable than strategic. The date is the load-bearing part: a return promised without one is the same message the silence already sent, and readers who have seen a comeback post fail before discount the second one heavily.

The rule for this one

Name the real reason for the gap and the date posting resumes. A comeback without a date is the same silence in a longer form.

The same announcement, twice

What the category publishes, and what the rule produces.

The first draft is a composite written to match the register the ranking pages for this query actually publish. It quotes no company and no real post. The second obeys the rule above and nothing else, so anything that changes between them is the rule doing it.

Before

The version everyone posts

Hey everyone! Things have been a little quiet around here lately as we have been heads down working on some exciting things behind the scenes. We cannot wait to share more with you soon. Thank you for your patience and for continuing to support us on this journey!

After

The version that obeys the rule

Nothing has been posted here since March because the two of us were rebuilding the editor and neither of us writes. That is finished. Posting resumes weekly from Monday, and if it stops again for more than a month, assume something went wrong and ask.

What is wrong with the first one

It explains the gap with "exciting things behind the scenes", which is the phrase used when there is nothing to report, and it promises more soon without saying when. Both are the message the silence already delivered.

Measured, not asserted

7 of 10 measured dimensions moved.

Both drafts were read by the engine behind our free brand voice generator. It is arithmetic over the text rather than a judgement, which is the reason it is used here: every figure below can be checked by counting the draft printed above it.

What earns the post

  • The actual cause, however unglamorous. Being busy or short-handed is more credible than being strategic.
  • The specific cadence you are committing to, which should be one you can keep on a bad month.
  • What readers should conclude if it stops again, which turns a promise into something checkable.

When not to post it at all

Skip it if you are not certain you will keep the cadence. A second unexplained gap after an explicit promise costs more credibility than the first one did, because the first was neglect and the second is a broken commitment.
